PDP Crisis: Ekweremadu leads peace team to Sheriff by nairaway(m) : 12:13 pm On May 30, 2016

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, is to lead a three-man team to meet with the former chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, to try to persuade him to drop his court case against the party and come back to the fold.

A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the PDP with other stakeholders of the party last Thursday, set up a thre- man committee to meet with Senator Sheriff, with a view to bringing him back to the main fold, following the crisis that erupted in the aftermath of the convention in Port Harcourt, which removed Sheriff and members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party.

The committee is headed by Senator Ike Ekweremadu, with Leo Ogor, the Minority leader in the House of Representatives and former Deputy Senate leader, Abdul Ningi, as members.

According to a member of the committee, the meeting with Sheriff would have held on Friday but Sheriff was out of Abuja.

“We will meet with him early next week to try to resolve the crisis. We are optimistic that we will achieve Reconciliation and bring everybody back to the fold.

‘’We have received positive signs from Sheriff. That is impressive,” the member who declined to be named said.
He said the party could not afford to have a prolonged crisis at this point in time because of the precarious state of the party.
