It was a bad Easter celebration for residents of Isheri Road, in the Ijegun area of Lagos after the corpse of a 41-year-old woman identified as Lola Adeyemi, was found dead in a well.

Mrs Adeyemi, who was married with two children, was said to have disappeared from the house four days earlier and after series of search, she was declared missing.

Sadly, her bloated remains were found on Sunday inside a well by a resident who quickly raised the alarm, drawing the attention of other people.

Policemen from the Isheri division and officials of the Lagos State Fire Service were invited to the scene. Her corpse was thereafter recovered and deposited in a mortuary.

According to Punch, it took combined efforts of firefighters from the Ikotun and Alausa stations to remove the body from the well.

The Director of the state fire service, Rasak Fadipe, said the woman was n*ked when she was removed from the well. "We discovered that she was unclad, except for the pants she was wearing.”

Fadipe said it appeared like a case of suicide but no one could tell why she decided to take her life.

Horrified residents, friends and family members of the victim were said to have broken down in tears at the scene.

“She had four children, but two died. One of the children was at the well crying profusely while the body was being removed. She had actually asked her two kids to drop the laptop they were playing with and ordered them to go to bed before she went missing,” a witness said.

But a police source said there were marks of violence on her, adding that murder might not be ruled out.

“The woman had cuts on her head and some bruises. It is not clear if she actually committed suicide. The husband was the one that reported the matter at the police station when she went missing. He told us that his wife just woke up beside him and he had not seen her since then. But I think an autopsy will reveal what actually killed her,” the police source said.

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayo Fayose of conducting himself in a manner that threatens national security.

It said the governor’s recent utterances and actions suggested acts of sabotage targeted at rendering national institutions ineffective to perform their statutory roles for effective government.
“We have heard of reports of Governor Fayose inciting the people to stone the operatives of the DSS anywhere they are seen. This is besides saying many unprintable things about the President, such as saying that he would soon die and declaring the Director General of DSS, Lawal Musa Daura, person non grata in Ekiti State.
“It is regrettable that Fayose cannot separate his personal views as a man constantly at war with the Nigerian law from the views of lawful Ekiti people, who are ready to submit themselves to the Nigerian law where the rule of law and good governance flourish,” he said.

Accusing the governor of running a government built on his personal image, the APC spokesman said this misconception had “robbed Ekiti people the quality leadership with the right mindset to see governance beyond the prism of self-glorification.

“This failure to see governance beyond personal appeal of the governor has cost our state good governance for the development of our people and her deserved place of honour in this country.

“Governor Fayose is overwhelmed with promoting cloudy characters, with several alleged crimes hanging on their necks far above Ekiti academic pride of the century, Ayodele Dada, who bagged the best graduating student award at the University of Lagos with a record 5.0 GPA.

“We are not surprised at the governor’s beatification of crime in this instance, because you can only give what you have and gold is usually sold to the person who knows its value. That is why Fayose would prefer to celebrate thugs and roughnecks to celebrating Ekiti golden boy that has put Ekiti State on the map of academic honour at the University of Lagos.”

The party urged Nigerians not to be misled by Fayose’s many lies against the government.

Apparently miffed by the controversy generated by the declaration of the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, that the current petrol shortages could last up to two months, NNPC has unveiled new strategies to end the lingering fuel scarcity within the next few days.

The NNPC leadership is now assuring Nigerians that they are on top of the situation.
The commission says it's committed to eliminating issue once and for all within the next few days.

NNPC’s Group General Manager in charge of Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Garba Deen Muhammed, said in a statement on Monday night that in the medium term, the corporation was working on sustainable strategies to permanently address the issues and challenges facing the midstream and downstream sectors.

According to him, the overarching objective is to make Nigeria a net exporter of Petroleum products as was the case in the 1970s.

He said, “Our commitment to ramp up our local refining capacity and availability remains unwaivered with the ongoing rehabilitation works targeted at running all Refineries at a minimum 70 per cent capacity utilisation within the next eight to nine months. This is in addition to our initiative of increasing the combined capacity of the domestic refineries through co-locating smaller but cost efficient modular refineries within the existing refineries premises within a time frame of 12-24 months.”

Muhammed noted that since the domestic crude oil supply of 445,000 barrels per day could only guarantee about 50 per cent of the 45 million litres national requirement for petrol, NNPC had secured presidential approval to take additional crude oil volume to guarantee national supply of petrol.

To curb storage and logistics challenges, he said the corporation was working on a joint partnership with technically and financially capable investors to ensure that petroleum products transportation and storage facilities were efficiently operated on an open-access common-carrier user-tariff basis.

“Some of these depots will be nominated as strategic reserves while we take possession of a strategic reserve vessel in the next 3 months. Results will be delivered within the next three – six months. Changes usually take time, effort and a lot of focus. We understand the plight of Nigerians and the impact on the overall economy. We genuinely empathize with the attendant sufferings and wish to reassure that we are focused and committed to bring an end to this situation within the next few days."

Federal High Court, Lagos has insisted on enforcement of the judgment ordering the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to publish widely the spending of recovered stolen funds since the return of democracy in 1999.

The details of the judgment are contained in the certified true copy sent by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, to Abubakar Malami (SAN), Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

The 69-page judgment, dated March 24, 2016 and signed by Justice Mohammed Idris, read in part: “Transparency in the decision making process and access to information upon which decisions have been made can enhance accountability.

“Obedience to the rule of law by all citizens but more particularly those who publicly took oath of office to protect and preserve the Constitution is a desideratum to good governance and respect for the rule of law. In a constitutional democracy like ours, this is meant to be the norm.

“I am of the view that on receipt of SERAP request, the government had the duty to respond to same. If it does hold the information it must supply it within seven days from receipt of the request. Where a decision to withhold information is taken, the government/relevant authorities must inform the plaintiff of its reason. In respect of the SERAP reliefs on recovered stolen funds since return of democracy in 1999, the government had kept mute. Let me say that they have no such power under the law.

“There is public interest in public authorities and high-profile individuals being accountable for the quality of their decision making. Ensuring that decisions have been made on the basis of quality legal advice is part of accountability.”

Tension is mounting in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State over the leadership crisis that has engulfed the town’s main market, with the traders calling on Governor Willie Obiano to intervene before the matter assumed a dangerous dimension.

Trouble in the market was as a result of the alleged sacking of its chairman, Mr. Dozie Okeke and members of his executives by an Onitsha Magistrate Court presided over by Uche Amaechi.

Following the development, the market has been polarized into two factions with one loyal to the sacked chairman and supported by the leadership of the Amalgamated Market Traders Association, AMATAS, while the other is led by Mr. Malachy Nwabudu, who obtained the court judgment. Nwabudu is also backed by some past and present zonal leaders of the market.

The traders said weekend that only Governor Obiano’s intervention would avert the breakdown of law and order at the market.

According to the traders, the sacked chairman has refused to vacate office several weeks after the judgment, adding that the leadership of AMATAS was also aiding the crisis by instigating the sacked chairman to continue in office.

“The governor should prevail on the leadership of AMATAS to ask M.r Okeke to vacate his seat as directed by the court to avoid bloodshed,” they said.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Monday alleged it has uncovered another plan by the Federal Government, Department of State Service, DSS and three South East Governors and some National Assembly members to eliminate its leader and Director of Radio Biafra Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB in a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Officer, Mr Emma Powerful said “the plot by FG, DSS and three Governors from the Southeastern States to eliminate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and Director of Radio Biafra on his way to next court date.

Powerful said “the meeting where the plot was perfected had top notches of All Progressives Congress, APC, three Governors from the South East and some Senators from the same zone and some well known enemies of the actualisation of Biafra project”.

“The plan was perfected in the meeting and designed to be carried out by a killer squad who will open fire on the vehicle as he is being taken to court ”.

The Coalition for Women Advancement in Africa (COWAA) has described the new video by Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau where he announced what could best be described as a surrender as a major breakthrough by the military in the war against the Boko Haram insurgency.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Executive Vice President of the group, Mrs Jummai Pukat said the group has recruited the services of forensic experts and can confirm the authenticity of the video by Shekau.
A screengrab taken on October 2, 2014 from a video released by the Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram and obtained by AFP shows the leader of the Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau. Shekau dismissed Nigerian military claims of his death in a new video obtained by AFP on October 2

She however called on the Nigeria army to sustain its onslaught against the few remaining terrorists who may want to continue with their nefarious crimes.

She said, “We have authoritatively confirmed the video after subjecting it to scientific scrutiny and wish to say it is authentic and represents the reaction of the group to the ongoing merciless onslaught being carried out by the Nigerian Army. As mothers of the nation, we are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to see to an amnesty for those who are ready to lay down their arms and encourage the Nigerian Army to flush out every criminal elements or factional group that fails to utilize the opportunity of the declaration of surrender by Abubakar Shekau who has been known over the years as the leader of the group.

“In the same spirit of a new Nigeria devoid of the killings, kidnappings and terrorism that Nigerians were elated to view the video of their longest nightmare in the person of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau almost grovelling as he declared that ‘I am finished’.

“Even without uttering those welcome words about being finished, which we believe equally applies to the terror group with which he brought this country down to its knees, the body language of the Shekau we saw in the video was that of a man who together with his minion are receiving the drubbing of their lives from the Nigerian Army ably supported by the Air Force.

“The video and proclamation by Shekau should be seen as a major breakthrough in the nation’s war against terrorism. In that video, we see and heard a Shekau who finally had the sense to admit that the end is nigh; we see a Shekau who has become gaunt ostensibly because the Army has successfully disrupted the supply routes for his terror group’s vital supplies; we see a Shekau who for the first time lost the ability to harangue the Nigerian state as he was not able to hop from one feet to the other, we see a Shekau whom the Nigerian Army has deprived of the succour and support of his devilish Amirs (commanders), who fell to the superior will of our gallant troops in quick succession; we see a Shekau that has been abandoned by the abominable Daesh (Islamic State) to which he pledged allegiance; we see a Shekau who is facing internal rebellion within the band of bloodthirsty imps that he has gathered, we see a Shekau at the end of his tethers and with the full knowledge that he deserves whatever he has coming for him; we see a Shekau that is in need of a finishing off; and we see a Shekau who must not get the mercy that he never showed his thousands victims.”

The group commended the Army for sustaining the onslaught on the terrorists in a manner that the degraded Boko Haram to the point where Shekau was flushed out to give proof of life to his own so called followers.

“However, our wish is to reiterate our resolve for lasting peace. We cannot get lasting peace by allowing Shekau and his remaining Amirs the luxury of being able to re-group and restore their ability to take on the Nigerian Army. The decision makers in the Army should let the federal government know what is needed to help these abominations called terrorists keep their appointments with their makers,” she said

Pukat said the Army must not relent, but should get more ammunitions and artillery to further decimate the ranks of terrorists.

She said While Shekau as the head of Boko Haram deserves whatever he gets, amnesty should be handed over to all those who were forcefully indoctrinated into the terror group’s criminality as a way of further decimating whatever structure the criminal thought would survive him.

“We reiterate our position that Amnesty should be granted to those who were forcefully indoctrinated into the movement while those who wish to remain on are treated as mere criminals by the Nigerian Army.”

She said the immediate rescue of the 16 women abducted by Boko Haram should be commended by all Nigerians, stressing that the timely rescue should be a reminder that anyone abducted shall be found and set free.

Nigeria is losing not less than N10 billion yearly through hosting its country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD), dotng (.ng) domain names outside the country, the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) said on Monday.

Mr Sunday Folayan, President of NIRA disclosed this in an interview in Lagos.

Simply put, domain hosting is ‘renting a space’ on the internet to hold a website, so that anyone can find your website, by typing in your domain name.

He said that hosting of domain name was a pure business decision, which had both security and economic implications.

According to him, just one per cent of the .ng domains registered by NIRA’s registrars, is what is hosted in the country.

“And if we estimate, hosting has the income of about five times to 10 times the cost of domain name registration. You will see that it is a lot of money we are talking about.

“So 99 per cent of what NIRA has registered is hosted outside and NIRA has conservatively put what Nigeria is losing by today’s value of not less than N10 billion, in terms of hosting from the .ng domain.

“There are other .com domains that are also registered by NIRA, which could be more than five times the .ng registered.

“So we are talking of not less than N50 billion, plus the N10 billion from the .ng, making a total of not less than N60 billion,’’ he said.

The president added that information put on the internet were not safe, as people from anywhere in the world could h*ck into it.

He said that such data would be better secured, if hosted within the country, than outside.

Folayan decried the hosting of .ng domain names outside Nigeria, as it amounted to capital flight, and was not good for Nigeria’s economy.

The president said that NIRA had a total of 56 accredited registrars, who handled the actual registration of the domain names.

He said that of the 56 registrars, 79 per cent were Nigerians, while the remaining were from the UK, Germany and other countries.

According to him, of the 19,649 domain names registered and hosted by NIRA’s registrars, only 1.33 per cent is hosted in Nigeria.

“All the rest are hosted outside Nigeria. This is capital flight, it is something that bothers NIRA and we are looking at ways to mitigate that and help reserve foreign exchange, particularly at this very tight time for the country,’’ he said.

Folayan said that .ng (like our currency, the Naira and the +234 for country code) was the official Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)-approved ccTLD for Nigeria.

According to him, the availability of names is better on the .ng ccTLD than on the generic top-level domain (gTLD) like .com, .org.

“With the .ng, our primary Domain Name System (DNS) servers are secured and locally managed with multiple cast servers located around the world,’’ he said.

Folayan added that hosting businesses on the .ng would help to support the Nigerian economy and provide jobs for local Information Technology (IT) professionals.

Seventeen people have died in clashes between arable farmers and nomadic herdsmen in Ivory Coast’s northeastern town of Bouna, the government announced Friday warning that the toll could rise.

“During the night of 23-24 March, the situation became very aggravated and at this stage we have 17 people dead,” defence ministry official Vincent Toh Bi said on state television.

A further 39 people were injured in the fighting, including five members of the security forces who intervened, he added.

Around 900 defence and security personnel were deployed in the town to restore order.

“This is a provisional toll. This is a crisis. We’ll have to wait several more hours, or even several days, to have a definitive toll,” said Toh Bi.

Violent disputes between nomadic‎ herders and farmers, often over grazing and watering rights, are not uncommon, but such a high death toll is rare

The farmers complain that their fields are ruined by the passage of herds of cattle.

An exclusive video has been released to YouTube detailing the visit of Prophet T.B. Joshua to Tanzania and revealing details of the pastor's closeness to the East African nation's new pace-setting President.

In the clips, TB Joshua is warmly welcomed at the airport by Tanzania's President, Dr John Magufuli, who is described as a 'regular visitor to The SCOAN and an Emmanuel TV partner'.

Subsequently, the video shows Joshua being shown around Magufuli's personal house and also meeting his extended family, including his aged mother.

The President's eldest son testifies in the clips that he received healing from a respiratory problem after the prayers from TB Joshua, now he no longer needs the breathing device he once relied upon.

Other clips reveal the Nigerian cleric's extensive meeting with Tanzanian opposition leader Edward Lowassa and key members of his party where he is seen offering prayers for them.

At the period of TB Joshua's arrival in November 2015, the nation was tense after the election outcome was disputed by Lowassa.

However, peace and progress have been the watchwords of Magufuli's first few months in office, with his anti-corruption drive and impressive work ethic hailed worldwide.

Some Nigerian football enthusiasts on Tuesday, demanded an explanation from the officials of the Egyptian Embassy over the denial of visa to some members of the Super Eagles Supporters Club.

Some supporters were to travel to Egypt to cheer the Super Eagles to victory on the second leg of AFCON qualifier in Egypt.

Sunday Fabiyi, a football fan based in Abuja, who spoke with NAN, wondered why it was difficult to issue visa to the supporters club, which was the right thing to do.

According to him, Nigerians periodically do the same to other fellow African countries including Egypt, adding “it is in African spirit and the development of the game.’’

Fabiyi also noted that Nigeria remained the big brother of Africa no matter what happens, adding that “the spirit of a Nigerian can never be deterred.”
Similarly Fidelia Ogunsakin, a female football ethusiast who also spoke with NAN, maintained that the Egyptian embassy should make their reasons public rather than being silent.
She advised that Nigerians should not be kept in the dark over the issue.

Ogunsakin, however, expressed optimism in the ability of the Super Eagles to defeat the Egyptian national team, not minding the antics of the Egyptian officials.

An Egyptian embassy official, who spoke to NAN on the condition of anonymity, said that it was the duty of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to have handled the issue of visa.

The official said that NFF should have come up with a letter on behalf of the supporters in line with policies of the embassy.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has declared that the All Progressives Congress, APC, is not in a position to win an election in the state, accusing the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi of sponsoring violence to remain politically relevant.

From Right: Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Enyinaya Abaribe on Tuesday during the solidarity visit of Senate PDP Caucus to celebrate PDP victory during the rerun elections at the Government House, Port Harcourt .

Wike informed that with the proofs of corruption against Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation resorted to blackmailing the leadership of the APC that he would reveal to the public how much he invested in the party’s campaign if he was not confirmed as a minister.

This is even as the Senate Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, must release the collated results of the March 19, 2016 rerun elections.

Speaking during a solidarity visit by the PDP Senate Caucus, Governor Wike said the Minister of Transportation lost his local government area and Federal Constituency, hence his desperation to influence the release of the results.

He said: “Any person who loves Mr President won’t be causing unnecessary crisis for him. We have problem in the North East, problem in the South-East, so there is no need for another problem in the South-South .

“It is good that the elections were held so that Nigerians will know the truth about the polity. If elections are held 20 times, PDP will win”.
The governor decried the role played by soldiers during the rerun elections. He said the military were directly involved in the elections at polling units and at the collation centres in direct violation of the Electoral Act.

He regretted the killing of the corps member, Samuel Okonta during the rerun elections, but stressed that investigation into the type of bullet that killed him must be made public.
He confirmed that the state government will immortalise the late corps member.

Earlier, Senate Minority Leader and Leader of Senate PDP Caucus, Senator Godswill Akpabio said that the victory recorded by the PDP in Rivers State is “a clear case of justice being done by God”.
While describing Rivers State as peaceful, Senator Akpabio regretted the sponsored propaganda by the opposition to destroy the image of the state.

He said that there is no other political party in the state outside the PDP.
He, however, called for tolerance in the political space to allow for the sustenance of the state’s multiparty democracy.
Meanwhile, highpoint of the visit was the donation of N1million by the Senate to the family of late Samuel Okonta through Governor Wike.
Akpabio prayed that Okonta’s death would be the last during elections.

He also commiserated with the government and people of the state over the death of PDP members during the rerun elections.
